Dr. Mark Hammergren

Physics, BS Astronomy 1986 Univ. of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign MS Astronomy 1992 University of Washington PhD Astronomy 1998 University of Washington Dr. Hammergren is Director of the Adler's Doane Observatory, which houses a research-grade 20-inch reflecting telescope. His research interests include asteroids (particularly their shapes, compositions and internal structures), the effects of past asteroid impacts on Earth, and the history and sociology of the flying saucer phenomenon. Since 2000, Dr. Hammergren has been an instructor at the Summer Science Program, a six-week residential astronomy program for gifted high school students, in Ojai, California. Starting in 2003, Dr. Hammergren is the Academic Director of the Summer Science Program's new branch in Socorro, New Mexico.
